Every website runs on software that keeps changing. Platforms, plugins and browsers all update on their own schedule, and the security fixes in those updates only protect you if someone applies them. Leave a site alone for a year and it slowly gets slower, less secure and more likely to break.

A care plan makes that someone us. We keep the site updated, backed up and monitored, fix what breaks, and make the small edits you would otherwise put off. You get a site that keeps working, and one person to call when you need something.

What a care plan includes

The six things every website needs on a regular schedule. All of them come with the Care plan, and every other plan builds on it.

Monthly updates.

Software, plugins, themes and security patches applied every month and checked afterwards, so an update never quietly breaks a page.

Backups.

Regular backups of your site and content, so a bad update or a hack is an inconvenience instead of a disaster.

Security.

Most hacked sites are simply out of date. Keeping everything patched closes the doors attackers use most.

Speed and uptime monitoring.

We watch performance, so a slow or broken site gets caught before your customers notice it.

Content edits on request.

New hours, a new service, a new photo. Send the change and we make it.

Bug fixes and priority support.

When something stops working, you have someone to call who already knows your site.

Pick a plan

Three monthly plans with published prices. Most small businesses only need Care. The other two add accessibility or local SEO on top.

Most sites start here

Care

$255/mo

Hosting, updates, backups, monitoring, and edits after launch. The plan that keeps a working site working.

  • Monthly software, plugin and security updates
  • Backups and performance monitoring
  • Bug fixes and troubleshooting
  • Content updates on request
  • Priority support

Compliance Care

$355/mo

For sites that have to stay accessible. Every new page or post can break something, so someone has to keep checking.

  • Quarterly accessibility re-audits
  • Ongoing accessibility monitoring
  • Priority fixes when something fails
  • VPAT upkeep for procurement

Care + Local SEO

$425/mo

Everything in Care, plus the work that gets you found in local search.

  • Everything in Care
  • On-page SEO optimization
  • Keyword tracking and monthly SEO reporting
  • Technical SEO audits

Which plan you need

Care is for almost every small business site: a shop, a practice, a studio, a contractor. If your site works and you want it to keep working, start here.

Compliance Care is for organizations that have to keep their site accessible: town and county governments, schools, and nonprofits with funder or procurement requirements. It usually follows an accessibility audit, and keeps the site conformant afterwards. Public entities in Western North Carolina can read more on WCAG compliance in NC.

Care + Local SEO is for businesses that depend on local customers finding them on Google. It is the same plan as Care, with the work that gets you found added on. More on local SEO in Asheville.

What happens without maintenance

Nothing dramatic, at first. Then one day the site is hacked, broken, or gone, and the fix costs far more than the care would have. If that has already happened, we do WordPress hack recovery too.

Security holes stay open.

Plugin and platform updates often exist to close a known vulnerability. Once it is public, bots scan for sites that have not patched it. An out-of-date site is the easiest target there is.

Updates pile up, then break things.

Skip a few months and dozens of updates stack up. Applying them all at once is when layouts break, forms stop sending, and checkout fails.

There is no backup when you need one.

Hosting backups are often missing, old or hard to restore. Without a recent copy you trust, one bad update or one hack can cost you the whole site.

Accessibility drifts.

A site that passed an audit does not stay accessible on its own. Every new page, image and plugin is a chance to add a barrier, and the legal risk that comes with it.

Site out of date, or not sure when it was last updated? We will tell you where it stands.

Website care plan FAQ

What is a website care plan?

A care plan is a monthly retainer where someone else keeps your website healthy: software and security updates, backups, monitoring, bug fixes and small content edits. You stop worrying about the site and get on with running the business.

How much does website maintenance cost?

Our Care plan is $255 a month. Compliance Care, for sites that have to stay accessible, is $355 a month. Care + Local SEO, which adds on-page SEO, keyword tracking and reporting, is $425 a month. All three are published on our pricing page, so there is no quote to wait for.

What is the difference between Care and Compliance Care?

Care keeps the site updated, backed up and working. Compliance Care is for organizations that need the site to stay accessible to WCAG standards, such as town and county governments, schools and nonprofits with funder requirements. It adds quarterly accessibility re-audits, monitoring, priority fixes and VPAT upkeep. Most sites only need Care.

Do you maintain websites you did not build?

Yes. We take on sites built by other people all the time. If something needs fixing before we can maintain it properly, we tell you up front.

How often does a website need updates?

Software, plugins and themes release updates every month, and security patches can land any week. Monthly is the minimum for most sites. Waiting longer means more updates stack up at once, and that is when things break.

Can I update my site myself instead?

You can, and some owners do. The work is not hard, it is regular: checking a backup exists before each update, testing the site afterwards, and fixing whatever broke. A care plan makes it someone else’s job, every month, without fail.

What if I need more than the plan covers?

Bigger changes, like a new section or a new feature, are available in hour blocks once you are on a plan: 5 hours for $500 or 10 hours for $1,000. We tell you the estimate before we start, so nothing turns up on an invoice you did not expect.
